Ingredients

Cake:

1 stick, plus 3 tablespoons unsalted butter

1 cup sugar

2 teaspoons grated orange peel

2 teaspoons baking powder

1/4 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

2 large eggs

2 tablespoons poppy seeds

2/3 cup buttermilk, she adds more

1 3/4 cups flour

Icing:

1/4 cup orange juice

1 tablespoon lemon juice

3 tablespoons sugar

Preparation

Cake: Beat butter, sugar, peel, baking powder, salt and salt, very well. Beat in eggs and poppy seed slowly. Slowly pour in buttermilk, blend. Add flour, just until blended. Pour in 9-inch round pan.

Bake at 350°F for 45 minutes or until pick comes out clean. Let cool 10 minutes in pan. Poke holes with a toothpick.

Icing: Combine powdered sugar, vanilla, cream or milk. Stir well.

Ice over cooled cake. Top with crushed pecans.
