Ingredients

4 c fruit (she uses peaches and blueberries)

1/2-1 c sugar

1/4 c shortening (i use softened butter)

1 1/2 c flour

1 c sugar

1 c milk

1 t vanilla

2 t baking powder

1/4 t salt

1 c boiling water

Preparation

Cut peaches into bite size chunks and mix with blueberries and sugar. Use as much or as little sugar depending on ripeness (sweetness) of fruit. Set aside for 30 minutes or so.

Cream butter with sugar and add vanilla. Mix dry ingredients and add to milk. Comibine and pour this mixture into 9x13 buttered baking dish.

Pour fruit mixture on top of batter mixture, dot with a few pats of softened butter, then gently pour boiling water on top.

Bake at 350 (moderate oven) for 40-60 minutes. Sprinkle top with a tablespoon of coarse sugar after about 25 minutes for a nice crust. Top should be lightly golden.

Serve with good vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
