Ingredients
8-10 tart cooking apples, peeled and thinly sliced
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup dark brown sugar
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp cinnamon
3/4 cup melted butter
3/4 cup flour
1/2 cup sugar
3/4 to 1 cup rolled oats (to taste/texture)
Preparation
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Place apples in a large bowl and set aside. Mix each of the 1/2 cups of sugar with the nutmeg and cinnamon. Combine with the apples in the bowl and toss lightly. Then, place this dusted apple mixture in a well greased 9x11 cake pan. Then, mix the melted butter with the remaining flour, sugar and rolled oats in bowl and finger blend it together, but not to be overworked or made mushy; just carefully lightly blend. Pour the crumble mixture over the apples. Then bake in the center of the oven for 1 hour. Serve warm with rich thick cream or vanilla ice cream, or can be delicious served room temperature or even cold.
