Ingredients
Cake: 1 cup of butter; 1 cup of sugar; 2 cups of flour; 4 teaspoons of baking powder; 3 eggs; 2 cups of milk; 2/3 cup sugar burnt (medium color)
Filling & frosting: 1 & 1/3 cups of sugar burnt (medium color) ; 3 tablespoons of butter; 1/2 cup of milk; 1 cup of chopped walnuts
Preparation
Cake: Make the caramel (scalded milk and burnt sugar mixed together, let cool). Beat well together butter, sugar and egg yolks, add the caramel, keep beating at medium speed, then add flour; baking powder and the egg whites beaten into soft peaks. Bake at 375 till golden. Filling & frosting: Scald the milk and mix it with the burnt sugar, add butter and pecans. If too runny, wait a couple of minutes. Cut cake in half, spread some filling and cover the cake with the rest of it. Wait 1 or 2 days to serve.
