Ingredients
1/2 cup each chopped onion, celery and carrots
2 minced garlic cloves
1 Tbsp olive oil
1-1/2 lb ground beef
1/2 lb lean sweet Italian sausage (casings removed)
1/2 cup dry breadcrumbs
2 large eggs
1/2 cup milk
1/4 cup ketchup
1 Tbsp Dijon mustard
1 tsp chopped fresh rosemary 1/2 tsp each salt and pepper
OPTIONAL TOPPINGS
2-3 slices thick-cut bacon
AND/OR 2-3 slices onion and 2-3 tbls. ketchup
(depending on desired topping)
Preparation
Sauté onion, celery, carrots and garlic cloves in olive oil over medium heat, 8 minutes; let cool to touch. Mix with ground beef, sweet Italian sausagedry breadcrumbs, eggs, milk, ketchup, Dijon mustard, rosemary and salt and pepper; blend well. Place in/on pan. Top with desired topping (bacon or ketchup and onions). Bake 1 hour at 350 degrees. Let cool 15 minutes.
