Ingredients

2 cups flour

1 cup whole wheat flour

1/3 cup sugar

2 teaspoons baking soda

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 scant teaspoon of salt

4 tablespoons unsalted butter

1 cup buttermilk

1 cup milk plus extra for brushing

1 cup raisins

2 teaspoons caraway seeds (optional)

Preparation

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix by hand butter with first 6 dry ingredients. I find it easier to pulse in food processor. Gradually add milks and mix in raisins and seeds. Shape into an 8 inch disc and place inside 9" round pan. With a butter knife make an X on top.Brush top with milk/ buttermilk and bake until toothpick comes out clean. About 50 minutes
